As Dataquest’s user researcher, I was brought in to perform usability testing on an onboarding flow prototype developed during Dataquest’s first-ever design sprint. In the design sprint, the designer, product manager, and content authors developed a quiz-like prototype that recommended two content options to users. The primary goal of user testing was to find out whether the prototype made sense to learners and they were able to easily answer the quiz questions. However, we also wanted to learn more about expectations users had for different course types, and expectations for the next step in the onboarding process.
After those two rounds, we released the onboarding guide, and carried the insights about expectations into our next project — a new user homepage.
